Sakib Iftekhar is a Melbourne-based film producer, distributor, film critic, and founder of Screenxcope Australia. Over nearly two decades, he has worked across international co-productions, film distribution, festival programming, and criticism, with a particular focus on championing independent cinema from South and Southeast Asia.
As a producer, his work includes King in the Land of the Princess (Moscow International Film Festival, Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2026), Private Property (Locarno Film Festival 2026), An Apple Tree Inside the Head (Indian Film Festival of Melbourne), Punishment, and A Thing About Kashem (2025) – an Oscar-qualified short that received awards at the Rhode Island and Tasveer Film Festival. Sakib also served as Executive Producer on Nirvana (Special Jury Award, Moscow IFF), Raven (2024), and the documentary short Goodbye, Snoball, which premiered at the Ann Arbor Film Festival 2026.
Over the past decade, Sakib has led the Australian and New Zealand distribution of acclaimed Asian cinema, including the Cannes titles Tiger Stripes and Rehana Maryam Noor, the Venice title Pooja, Sir, the BFI-backed The Salt in Our Waters, and EKA, the first official Australia-India-France treaty co-production, slated for release in 2027.
Alongside his producing and distribution work, Sakib is an active film critic whose writing has appeared in international publications, and has served on the programming teams of film festivals in Australia and North America.
