Telstra Bollywood Dance Competition
Hundreds of people braved Melbourne's pelting rain to congregate in Federation Square stage for the Telstra Bollywood Dance Competition. Over 20 classic and contemporary acts of varying ages and cultural origins performed to earn themselves the coveted title of Best Soloist, Pre-teen and Group, as judged by Vijay Krishna Acharya (Director of Dhoom 3), Avtar Panesar (Vice-President of Yashraj Films) and Bollywood siren Malaika Arora Khan. The competition was stiff, with this year's winners being Sanjana Jaiswal for the Pre-teen category with a beautiful classical piece; Elise May Watson-Lord taking out the solo title with a dynamic ballet/bollywood fusion performance; and Sapphire Dance and Shiamak tying for the group win. Special mentions were also given to Bollywood Dimensions for their group act. The evening capped off with guest judge Malaika Arora Khan taking to the stage to dance with the winners. Make sure you start practicing for next year!
