Formerly a film critic, Australian filmmaker Geoffrey Wright made his directorial debut with the poignant short drama “Lover Boy. Lover Boy went on to win awards for Best Australian short film at both the Sydney and Melbourne Film Festivals.
Geoffrey Wright gained cult success with Russell Crowe starrer, Romper Stomper. Described as gritty, edgy, compelling, and authentic glimpse into inner dynamics of hate groups, Romper Stomper was lauded by critics and audiences. It received nominations for nine Australian Film Institute Awards and won three awards.
In 1994 he directed the gritty suburban thriller film Metal Skin, starring Ben Mendelsohn, and later directed the teen horror film Cherry Falls, starring Brittany Murphy. In 2006 he adapted Shakespeare's Macbeth for film, starring Sam Worthington and Lachy Hulme.
In 2017, Geoffrey Wright returned to create a sequel to the breakthrough classic Romper Stomper as a six-part series for Stan video streaming service.
